Changing gears

The Jewish Quarter in Old Toledo is well worth a visit; the narrow streets are really glorified alleyways and the old buildings brim with charm. Of course, the Jews were kicked out of Spain in 1492 and, if you look closely (top and left), you'll see a cross at the top of the old synagogue. Unfortunately, the museum, which I understand has some beautiful, very old and valuable artifacts, was closed when I was there--must go back!

Oh how I'd love to travel the world & come back w/ photos of all the places I've visited. But, I'm grounded in Southeast Missouri, so seeing the world through yours & everyone's photos is why I blog! Thank you for showing them!

My pleasure, so pleased you're enjoying these! I must say, I very much enjoy sharing my photos, so it's a good fit all around, isn't it! Of course, America is a beautiful country and there are many lovely places to photograph here too!

:) This is a page from my own history. My mum is a Saphardi Jew and is descended from the line of Jews that were evicted from Spain during the inquisition.

Emm--how fascinating! Ironic, of course, that Jews went to England from Spain, since England was the first country to kick Jews out! Guess by that time the pendulum had swung back and the king needed money again...

Oh, it was 400 years before they landed in England. They went from Spain to Greece to Turkey to Egypt and then to France in 1954 or there abouts and then down to South Africa in 1961 and only came to UK in the 70s.

It's truly amazing that you know your family history so well! That would make a great story, you know, one of those that goes through generations of the same family. I'm a typical American, know nothing about my family before WWII, though my dad is from Germany so we know about the old kicking outs!
